Why Android Phones are Becoming Increasingly Popular with Business Owners

Traditionally speaking, if you were a business owner, you picked up a blackberry. It was the phone that represented just about everything there is about business, which meant that it was a status symbol as much as it was a basic phone. Thankfully, there are new options coming into the corporate cell phone market, and one of those options is definitely the Android lineup of phones.

There’s a solid reason why Android phones are becoming increasingly appealing to business owners. For starters, the open platform means that new features and applications can be created specifically for the business functions they want. For example, a small shipping company can get a custom Android app created for their phones and get all the functionality they need without having to wait for the long turnaround times that can sometimes plague phones from other handset platforms. The open nature means that the development cycle is potentially less, since other open source programs can be used as models for other applications.

Another point is that the technology on the Android platform is generally more cutting edge, since that’s where a lot of people are focusing their attention. The business case for getting the best technology has been proven over and over again. Contrary to popular belief, staying with current technology makes it easier to run a proper business, since you will not have to fight for legacy support on obsolete systems. This same concept is why Android phones are popular with business owners, since they are assured of a certain level of functionality from the beginning that will definitely be here to stay. Google Android – The open-sourced Platform

There is no doubt that the Google Android mobile phone operating system has finally arrived. You can get it on almost any phone, and it even ships standard on many new, very cool mobile phones that have come out in recent months. But what makes Google Android a viable option? Isn’t it true that the Android program does not cost anything? If this is the case, than why aren’t there other operating systems out there that are better? Well, maybe Android is not considered the BEST, but it IS one of the most open-sourced, and that means something to today’s mobile phone community.

It is true that Android has a long way to go before it reaches the level of Apple mobile phone operating systems, as they dominate the market right now. But is it really the dream of Google to completely take over the mobile phone operating system industry, or are they just trying to get their foot in the door?

Google Android

To make a long story short, Google Android is giving us a more than capable OS on several high-end phones that would otherwise not be as open-sourced, and that, in itself, is something for Google to brag about. But then again, Google is no technological newbie either. Google is on the forefront of the communication revolution that is shaping our world right now, and in some ways, Google has this industry wrapped around it’s little finger.

Look at Google Maps? Is there anything comparable to that in the world right now? Sure, maybe there are expensive Gps programs, but can you easily download them to your website or Facebook page? Google has something special with Android, and only time will tell how far it will really go. The sky might be the limit, but it will all depend on the mobile-phone buying public, and the question will be this one – How much is an open-sourced operating system really worth to them?

Only time and mobile phone sales will tell.

Transitioning to the Android Platform from Other Phones

Are you trying to transfer your mobile life from another phone to the Android platform? Then you’re definitely in the right place. Now, we just did a guide on how to transfer your mobile life from the iPhone to the Android phone, but we don’t want anyone to think that we’re all about the iPhone and the iPhone only. You will need to make sure that you’re looking beyond that, and we would like to lead the way by making a guide that can cover other phones a swell. So if this guide seems a bit more general, then we apologize in advance. We’re trying to cover a few more platforms.

For example, you might have a BlackBerry. While a lot of people love their Blackberries, they want to check out Android as well. There’s no reason to feel like you can’t go from a BlackBerry to an Android.

From a general standpoint, there are only a few categories that you will need to focus on immediately.

Contacts

If there’s one thing that we reach for most frequently when it comes to our cell phones, it would have to be our contacts. If we don’t get our contacts, then we find that there’s really nothing that we can do with our phone. What’s the point of having a rocking camera if you don’t have anyone to take pictures with and send them to? Same with a full keyboard — who will you text?

If you can sync your contacts to your computer first, like you can with the iPhone and the BlackBerry, you will already be off to a great start. For GSM phones, there’s always using your SIM card over again in the new Android phone. If you’ve got AT&T or T-Mobile, then this is pretty much a snap to do — it’s all GSM over there.

Applications

The next stage in transitioning from your old phone to the Android phone you just picked up is to get your hands on a lot of applications and see how they work out for you. You don’t want to just get anything that looks good; that would quickly fill up all of the space on your new phone! You will instead want to make sure that you look at the apps that you loved on your old phone and see if you can find apps that match this purpose. That way you have a fast running phone and you can still get things done with applications.

When it comes to Android, the best place to get new apps is definitely the Android market. Don’t think that you won’t be able to find what you’re looking for just because it’s a big market — you’ll definitely find more than a few things to keep your interest.

User Flow

When you’re transitioning away from your old phone, one of the first things that people don’t really think about is definitely the way their phone “flows”. User flow is all about how you access the things on your phone. If you’re moving from an old phone to the new Android line of phones, you will need to spend some time working with your phone in a few different ways. Make sure that you can memorize how to get to things. This is also where your Android manual is going to be your friend. We could go general with this, but it’s better to get het skinny from the manual itself. Continue reading “Transitioning to the Android Platform from Other Phones”

The Rush of Ordering a New Android Phone Just Can’t Be Beat!

New to the Android platform? You’re not alone at all! A lot more people are coming to Android from BlackBerry or even iPhone, and that’s okay too. You’ll find a lot of features waiting for you on the Android platform, but what if you’re also coming into this after not owning a phone for a long time? This guide is designed to help you get up to speed quickly.

Believe it or not, not everyone in the world still has a cell phone. You might be coming into this as a new techie, and everyone loves newbies — at least, we do! There’s no crime in admitting that you don’t know something.

First and foremost, make sure that you have assigned up with a carrier that’s offering you a good deal. if you don’t have any outstanding balance with any company, you really need to make sure that you get a really good deal. You can literally go anywhere, and the handset carriers know it. A 2 year agreement is pretty much the standard, and you will need to make sure that if you’re going to sign one of those that you try to pay as little as possible.

If you sign up on the phone, they’re going to try to offer you a lot of different extras, like accessories at a discount. make sure that you turn away the accessories unless you’re really prepared to buy them over the phone. Sometimes you can find better deals online, especially if you’re not afraid of used technology.

You should be able to catch a deal to get the activation fee waived, which is always a good thing. If you can’t get it waived, you should at least have it put on your first bill. This is standard cell phone carrier practice, at least as far as know.

Speaking purely from the Android side of things now, you are going to love your phone! The nice part about Android is that it’s as easy or as technical as you want to make it. Yes, you can get technical and “root” your Android to get more control over it, but that’s not necessary. If you don’t want to mess with any of the bells and whistles inside of the phone, you can leave things alone as you see fit. Can You Really Cancel Your Mobile Phone Contract Due to Lack of Signal

Owning a mobile phone in the UK is a challenge — there are so many providers, and that means that there are a lot of different choices to be had. You just need to make sure that you get the network that’s going to meet your needs and stay with that — unless something better comes along, of course!

Yet what if you end up where you constantly don’t get a signal? Wouldn’t that mean that your service is unusable? That could mean that you get a few more options than you might expect at first.

First and foremost, you need to know your rights. Under the current UK law, a mobile network doesn’t have to cancel a mobile contract due to bad network coverage. Yet there are stirrings that this could change — the Communications Consumer Panel has suggested to Ofcom that all mobile network providers do offer a 14 day cancellation period to protect customers. That should give you plenty of time to really see whether or not a network is going to work out for you.

You have to check with the network specifically that you’re on to see what your contract says. It is possible to get a cancellation without a penalty if you can prove that it’s hard to actually use the phone and service that you’ve paid for.

There is a cooling off period of 7 days if you ordered your contract online, by phone, or through the post. Yet you have to be cautious on getting phones from a store kiosk — your ability to cancel will depend on the specific store’s return and cancellation policy. If you are going to order your phone from the store, you should also make sure that you talk to the store representative carefully. You want to get their name and store ID so that if there are any questions, you can get it sorted out right away.

Some networks do include a guarantee of acceptable network coverage, which means that you can cancel the service if you find that you don’t have a good signal.

A rival provider could also offer to buy you out, which means that you wouldn’t be out any money at all. Many competing cell phone providers do this in order to get customers that normally wouldn’t switch due to the heft cancellation fee that would be involved.

At the end of the day, the truth is that it’s really a mixed bag — you might be able to get out of your contract, and you might not. It’s going to be up to you to look at the fine print involved and see what you want to do.

Keep in mind that some networks even let you pay your cancellation fee in pieces if it applies to you. So there wouldn’t be an expectation to actually pay it if you honestly couldn’t pay it all at once. It really can be a lot of money!

Why Android Phones Are Superior to iPhones

It’s no secret that the Apple iPhone has been dominating the mobile market and, more specifically, the smart phone market since its release a few years ago. Cell phone companies far and wide have tried without success to develop a device that could actually compete with the advanced features and capabilities of the incredible iPhone. Having maintained the position of the most demanded and state of the art mobile device in the world for long enough, Google has developed a mobile platform for smart phones that gives the iPhone a real run for its money.

A newer version of the iPhone is due to be released some time in the near future, though it’s impossible to say whether it will exceed the Android phone or not. Even if it does, that is not to say that Google will not come up with something even better as the Android OS matures and improves. Until then, the comparisons made here are between the current iPhone models and the current Android phones.

First off, the Google Android platform is based on a Linux operating system, meaning that users have access to the majority of the internal configuration of the system. While users might not understand at first why this is so beneficial, Android application developers are automatically exposed to many, many more options and opportunities than iPhone developers. This will result in more web apps and features for users.

Also, Android phones feature the fastest hardware speeds in mobile technology, HTML browser support, an extensive application marketplace, advanced navigational abilities through Google Maps, and one of the highest quality built in cameras ever invented for cell phones. Multi touch screen technology is also no longer exclusive to the iPhone as Android phones now offer the same touch features, perhaps even better.

Finally, another great aspect of the Google Android platform is that it’s not exclusive to one type of cell phone such as the G1, which was the first Android model ever released and was made by Google. Those who are looking for a worthy alternative to the iPhone actually have several different types of Android phones to choose from. Different manufacturers such as HTC, LG, and Motorola integrate different kinds of features and functions in to their phones so every Android phone is actually unique in its own way and therefore serves a much wider range of needs and preferences than the iPhone.

Features that you will Love on the Android Phone

There has been a lot of excitement in the world of mobile phones, for the past couple of years. Ever since Apple revolutionized the industry with the iPhone, people have decided that they wanted to move up and have a smart phone as part of their electronic arsenal. Google decided to answer the call, and released the Android operating system.

The Android operating system was built so that several different phone manufacturers could have an already functional operating system on their manufactured smart phones. This OS would have the modern features that are expected in an operating system these days. So now each manufacturer would only have to worry about the hardware, and Google would worry about the rest. Now that the OS is on the 2.0 version, we are seeing a lot of features that have really made the Android phone one to have. We will go over a couple of features that really make the Andorid phone special.

The first feature that we will go over is the GPS set up of the phone. Sure, most phones have a GPS feature, but Google’s integrates very well with the already popular Google Maps. Since they own the mapping software, they are able to do things with it that other vendors could not. It may be a similar feature to all of the other phones out there, but the Android does the feature a lot better than everyone else. If you want to make sure that you can find your way around somewhere you want to visit, then an android phone is one of the best phones that you could have to accomplish this with.

Another feature that the Android has that everyone loves, is the tethering set up of the phones available if you use a third party app. The iPhone does not let you tether the phone unless you jailbreak it. The Android allows you to take advantage of this feature with the availability of a third party application. If you do not know what tethering is, we will give you a quick explanation. It is when you hook up an external device such as a laptop to your phone so that the external device can access the internet. This is great when you are mobile and you can not get to any LAN points. The iPhone creators have been saying that the feature was coming soon but they never delivered. Google has.

The last feature that we will talk about on the Android phone is the use of multiple applications at the same time. When you are on the iPhone, you can only use one application at a time. With an Android based phone, you can use several applications at the same time. Just like a normal computer. This is great when you are in the middle of using an application, and you want to take a peek at another one, you do not have to turn the first one off.

As you see, the Android is filled with features that you will grow to love.

Tether with Your Android Phone – Why Yes, You Can!

Tethering your Android phone means that you have options — that’s the short truth. If you have always marveled at how your friends always seem to get Internet no matter where they go, tethering is really the answer behind that.

Don’t get caught out in the cold because you don’t know how to do it. The spirit of owning an Android phone is that you will always be able to get Internet — even when Wi-Fi just ain’t the order of the day.

This guide covers some basic methods of getting things done — and each method ranges in terms of skill and ability required on your part. For people that would rather pay for an off the shelf solution, there are plenty out there to choose from. However, if you’re really all about hacking and tweaking your phone to perform new tricks, then you will definitely find methods in here that will help you do that.

First method of the day: Heavy Configuration with Android Apps

Got root? If you’re thinking about using an app to enable tethering abilities on your Android phone, you will need to make sure that you can get root access. This is something that can be kind of tricky if you’re not used to messing with your phone, and you can end up turning your phone into a brick. Is this fixable? In some cases, you can get a more technical person to unbrick your phone with a firmware downgrade, but this isn’t guaranteed either.

The app that a lot of Android hackers turn to still is the Android Wi-Fi Tether app . It’s an app that can definitely help you get things done, but it needs configuration in order to be useful. The problem first starts with needing to unlock the phone’s bootloader, changing the recovery image, and then upgrading the firmware on the phone itself. This is a lot just to get tethering, so you won’t hurt our feelings if you want a more straightforward solution. The best benefit to the first method is that it’s free, which can help if you’re trying to explore the power of your phone on a tight budget. When you are growing up, you usually make a decision on what kind of activities you are going to pursue in your spare time. Are you going to play sports or are you going to join the chess club? And even when you make that decision, you will still find more decisions underneath such as which sport, football or basketball. The same principle goes for when it comes to picking out the cell phone you are going to want to use for at least the next two years. Android: An insight into the technology

Android is a mobile Operating system and is the modified version of Linux kernel. This system was originally developed by the Android Incorporation. This firm was later purchased by Google, and Google sold this firm recently to Open Handset alliance. One of the most prominent features of Android is that, developers can write managed codes in Java language.

On 5th November, 2007 the Android was unveiled and the foundation of the Open Hand Alliance was announced. This alliance is a group of 47 hardware, telecom and software companies and their goal is to devote their activities towards the advance of open standards for all kind of mobile devices. Google also released its free software and open source license under the Apache License.

In the month of July 2005 Google acquired Android Incorporation, and at that time people only knew that Android Incorporation made software for the mobile phones. After the acquisition Google developed a device which was powered by Linux Kernel and which boasted of a flexible and upgradeable system for the mobile phones. In those days there was a lot of speculation and rumors that Google was entering the mobile phone sector. It was also speculated that Google was in the process of developing a Google brand handset. Finally the smartphone Nexus one was unveiled by Google which used the Android open source mobile operating system.

On November 5th, 2007 when the Open handset consortium was formed the Android product was further upgraded and developed to cater to the needs of the people from different walks of life. As this product was developed, different versions of the Android product started coming into the market with more added features. These products had the ability to record and watch videos, upload videos directly to Youtube via the phone, connection to a Bluetooth headset at a certain distance, Animation between various screens, ability to copy, paste, increase in speed for searching the camera, live wallpapers, built in flash support for the inbuilt camera, digital zoom, and many other features.

All these features enhanced the quality and the use of such mobile phones, thus making it a very convenient device for the people to have one. Many functions that needed another device to perform a certain function was no longer necessary, and the person had a lot more functions that he could use, with out being to carry another electronic device along with him.

Due to all these features, buying an Android is an excellent choice for someone who is looking for an alternative for the iphone. Another advantage of the Android phone is that you can choose from a vast array of phones, as each manufacturer has its own design and features which is not the case of an iphone. Iphones come in just one version, whereas you can have a lot of options while choosing the Android phone.
