Nexus One

The fiery Nexus One has reached the public and they seem to be amazed with it. For the most part, the "Google Phone" is a winner. Take a closer look at what the smartphone that is also called the "N1" can do.

The popularity of making a phone to match your software abilities has spread to the world of Google. The android operating system has the name of Google spreading around the world. The smartphone itself is fast, good looking and has that sometime-annoying "chin" on the bottom. It is not overly fat and can be put into a pocket without a fuss.

The screen is lovely. It is manufactured with the newest AMOLED technology. That means it is made with LEDs instead of LCDs. This makes it brighter than the old style. It also uses less energy. The size of the screen is a very nice 3.7 inches. That is just a bit bigger than the latest iPhone screen. The screen can change formats automatically using the accelerometer. By turning the Nexus One on its side you can change the aspect from portrait to landscape for web pages and texting. The multitouch feature was added recently to make it easier to view web pages a bit closer with "pinch and zoom".

Google Nexus One

You may see this smartphone advertised as the "HTC Nexus One". Google and HTC have been working together for over a year. The HTC people are from Taiwan and have been putting out nice phones for long time. The size of the Nexus one is 4.69 inches tall by 2.35 inches wide by .45 thick. It weighs in at 4.59 ounces. That is a bit heavy in the mobile community, but not by much.

The programs offered by the android operating system are exploding in numbers. Applications are becoming available at around the rate of 300 or more per day. At the moment, there are around 30,000 "android apps" to choose from. There are apps for protecting your password, for scanning barcodes for better prices online, controlling the flash on the camera, locating satellites, downloading torrents, showing your friend´s Xbox Live information, tracking friends and other exiting programs for your Android Phone. The Google Marketplace is growing and a Nexus One owner will surely find something useful there. If all the former abilities were not enough, you can clear all the personal information from your smartphone with one pre-arranged text message.

The Nexus comes with a racing processor. It runs at 1000 megahertz. It is labled the "Snapdragon" processor and is made by Qualcomm. Things do work with a "snap" on this smartphone, thanks to the processor and the prodigious amount of RAM and ROM memory. It has 512 megabytes in both of those categories. Opening and closing programs is lightning fast.

Quad band GSM and tri band HSDPA are available for voice networks, depending on where you live. In Canada, you will have Roger´s networks and in the United States you will have T-Mobile. Data connections are complete, including Wi-Fi. The only data connection not included is an infrared port. Google is nice enough to provide their customers with a four gigabytes MicroSD card. You can install a card up to 32 gigabytes in size for huge memory space.

The Nexus comes in just one color; brown. It is a metallic bronze color for the most part and fits the smartphone "fashionistas". The battery is sufficiently large enough to give up to ten hours of talk time or twenty hours of music. It is available now.
