The trend is increasing for smartphone manufacturers to scale down their expensive devices. Those who can downgrade their smartphone to something everyone can get their hands on will of course have the bigger portion of sales. Samsung did a great job with their Samsung Galaxy Spica I5700. Read here to find out the details on this new smartphone from Samsung.
Most smartphones that get scaled down also get the inferior "guts" that make them work. Not this smartphone. This phone actually goes faster than its larger counterpart. There are of course things that obviously have to be truly downgraded. The "Galaxy Lite" Spica does not have a flash for the camera. If you can live without that you may want to get a closer look at this smartphone.
The main device, the screen is the first topic at hand. The Spica has a great one. It is the new AMOLED version of displays and uses less battery power. It is also brighter than the older TFT versions. It is an average size for a phone with its proportions; 3.2 inches. Resolution is rated at 320 by 480 pixels which is common for many smartphones.
The inside of the smartphone is impressive. It has a very fast 800 megahertz of processing power. This makes the menus fly ! Opening and closing programs is without waiting. The newer Spica has less memory than its predecessor, but still has 180 megabytes of space. If that is not enough, you have a MicroSD card slot for a whopping 32 gigabytes of space. That is enough for most people.
The hot topic on the Samsung Galaxy Spica is its operating system. It is the open-source "Android" made by google. This smartphone uses the Android 1.5 version of the rapidly growing software from the world´s most popular search engine. Around 333 new applications for this software are created daily. Android "apps", as they are called, can truly make your life easier. They can also save you money with the ability to scan a photo of a barcode and get up-to-date information about it from the web. "Wiping" is also supported. This is the ability to clear the personal information from a distance if the Spica is lost or stolen.
Hooking up to a call is no problem for the Galaxy Spica. It uses quad band GSM and dual band HSDPA. Data connections are also not a problem. The Spica can connect to most everything, including Wi-Fi. The browser is from WebKit. It is both fast and high quality.
The Spica camera is a 3.2 megapixel model with autofocus and geotagging. It is capable of taking video in the MPEG4 mode. It also has a unique ability to take video with DivX support. It is the first Android smartphone to be able to do this. The audio is enhanced with "Digital Natural Sound Engine" ( DNSe ). Speaking of audio, the Spica also has a speakerphone, 3.5 millimeter jack and the previously mentioned slot for the MicroSD card. That is from 6400 to 8000 songs for truckloads of music.
You have a true powerhouse in your hands when you are holding the Samsung Galaxy Spica. It has yet to launch in the United States, but is aimed at the lower price ranges.
