When we think about the newest smart phones that have been released, we talk about the same features all of the time. We either discuss the feel of the UI, the actual weight of the phone, or how many applications is the phone able to access at the same time. There are of course many other features that get discussed regularly but one thing that we gloss over is some of the media features of these phones. In particular, the fact that the newer phones make excellent handheld gaming devices is being lost in talking about all of the other features of the phone. Yes, we talk about movies and music, but gaming always takes a back seat.

As a matter of fact, it can be said that some of the phones have more advanced gaming features than the most popular handheld consoles on the market. Of course the Android based phones are leading the way in this regard. The iPhone may have more actual gaming titles available for its system, but some of the Android based phones powerful hardware allows the android to play more advanced games.   

On especially the Nexus One and The Droid, the Android operating system has shown its ability to shine when playing video games. The Androids advanced 3D hardware engine that is in it, has really blown the competition, namely the iPhone, out of the water. There have been several side by side demos that have shown the hardware to be superior. Also, the touch interface really lends itself to certain types of games. Especially casual games that your mother would love. At first, it may seem like it would be hard to use a touch interface instead of the normal buttons, but once you get used to it there will be no problem. Another advantage that the Droid and the Nexus One have over the iPhone, is the size of the screen. The screen is noticeably bigger and in gaming, a bigger screen is always a bonus.  



Another factor that makes these Android phones such great gaming machines, is the amount of software titles that are available to be played. Unlike the proprietary consoles that are out on the market, an android based phone has an army of developers creating content for it. This means that you will most likely see a new game released every other day, instead of the weeks that it takes for handheld gaming consoles.

Every developer always dreams of the day that they can create a game and release it to the world. Now with the new smart phones, developers can easily achieve this. And better still, it also provides them with a built in audience that is ready to consume whatever has been provided. You will also see a greater variety of games that are available on the platform. There are games available for every demographic, from your mother to your child.
