Up until now, the only reason a person might choose to purchase an unbranded cell phone was to save money. The operating systems of unbranded cell phones have been nothing more than a choice between clunky interfaces, home made systems, or illegal ones.
These same unbranded phones running Google Android Operating Systems could get a much better reception around the world. Just the association with the Google Android Operating System would help them to gain acceptance and recognition. The opinion is that in a very few years users might be able to purchase relatively inexpensive cell phones equipped with the Android Operating system. This means that a person could potentially purchase a less expensive unbranded phone that would possess many of the capabilities of phones available from famous brand names.
Another possible result of Android Operating Systems being made available to unbranded manufacturers is that some of these manufacturers could gain worldwide popularity and become recognizable brands themselves. This is already happening in China, with the Sciphone. These phones have a rather infamous international reputation with their iPhone clones. However, using Android OS it is possible that companies like CECT (the manufacturers of Sciphone) could begin to produce their own brand awareness by building good quality original cell phones rather than fakes. It is yet to be shown if any of these manufacturers of fakes can make the jump to innovator through use of the Android OS.
So far, there has only been one attempt by these manufacturers to create a Google phone, but it is not genuine. The cell phone is the Sciphone Dream G 2, which does not run on a true Google operating system. Instead, the Sciphone dream G2 runs on a simulation of the Google operating System. This simulation was necessary because of the lack of fast enough chipsets. It is expected that, as speedier chips become available, things will change. A higher processing speed and the availability of some other components will, eventually, allow these manufacturers to readily use the Google Android Operating System.
There are reports that some true Google phones are prepared to hit the market from these sources. It remains to be seen how these purported Google phones will make use of the Android Operating System and whether they will be running the operating system in a useable form.
The potential remains that someone will use the Google Android OS in unbranded manufacture in the near future. It is now only a question of when.
