Android is a mobile Operating system and is the modified version of Linux kernel. This system was originally developed by the Android Incorporation. This firm was later purchased by Google, and Google sold this firm recently to Open Handset alliance. One of the most prominent features of Android is that, developers can write managed codes in Java language.

On 5th November, 2007 the Android was unveiled and the foundation of the Open Hand Alliance was announced. This alliance is a group of 47 hardware, telecom and software companies and their goal is to devote their activities towards the advance of open standards for all kind of mobile devices. Google also released its free software and open source license under the Apache License.

In the month of July 2005 Google acquired Android Incorporation, and at that time people only knew that Android Incorporation made software for the mobile phones. After the acquisition Google developed a device which was powered by Linux Kernel and which boasted of a flexible and upgradeable system for the mobile phones. In those days there was a lot of speculation and rumors that Google was entering the mobile phone sector. It was also speculated that Google was in the process of developing a Google brand handset. Finally the smartphone Nexus one was unveiled by Google which used the Android open source mobile operating system.



On November 5th, 2007 when the Open handset consortium was formed the Android product was further upgraded and developed to cater to the needs of the people from different walks of life. As this product was developed, different versions of the Android product started coming into the market with more added features. These products had the ability to record and watch videos, upload videos directly to Youtube via the phone, connection to a Bluetooth headset at a certain distance, Animation between various screens, ability to copy, paste, increase in speed for searching the camera, live wallpapers, built in flash support for the inbuilt camera, digital zoom, and many other features.

All these features enhanced the quality and the use of such mobile phones, thus making it a very convenient device for the people to have one. Many functions that needed another device to perform a certain function was no longer necessary, and the person had a lot more functions that he could use, with out being to carry another electronic device along with him.
